A. Theoritical review
1.
Pragmatic
George Yule (2006) explain that communication
clearly depends on not only recognizing the meaning of words in an utterance,
but recognizing what speakers mean by their utterances. The study of what
speakers mean is called pragmatics. Based on the statement, we know that
Pragmatic is one of language study branch that concern in speaker meaning.
Thus, pragmatic is related to the analysis of what speaker meant or a sentence
then interpreted by the listener or reader.
Further Stephen C. Levinson (1983) explain
many definitions, those are 1) pragmatic is the study of those relation between
language and context that are grammaticalized or encoded in the structure of a
language; 2) pragmatic is study of all those aspects of meaning not captured in
a semantic theory; 3) pragmatic is the study of relation between language and
context that are basic to an account of language understanding. Based on
Levinson’s statement, to understand language we not only understand the
structure of language but also the context of language. Because of that we need
to learn about pragmatic.
2. Presupposition
Stephen C. Levinson (1983) explain that
presupposition is kind of pragmatic that seem at least to be based more closely
on the actual linguistic structure of sentences and we can conclude
it. However, that such inferences cannot be thought of as semantic in
the narrow sense. From that statement Levinson give definition through
difference of semantic. In presupposition, each sentences we can conclude
depend on the reader thought. While George Yule (2006) also explain that
pragmatic is assumption of the listener or the reader about what a speaker say
or what a writer write. So, the listener
or the reader can assume the meaning or the message of the sentences. although
may be mistaken or approriate with the sentences. it depend on the
understanding of listener or reader.
B. Discussion
Rude by Magic!
Saturday
morning jumped out of bed
And put on my best suit
Got in my car
and raced like a jet
All the way to you
Knocked on your door with heart in my hand
To ask you a question
‘Cause I know that you’re an old-fashioned man,
yeah
Can I have your
daughter for the rest of my life?
Say yes, say yes ’cause I need to know
You say I’ll
never get your blessing ’til the day I die
Tough luck, my friend, but the answer is ‘No’
Why you gotta be so rude?
Don’t you know I’m human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I’m gonna marry her anyway
Marry that girl
Marry her anyway
Marry that girl
Yeah, no matter what you say
Marry that girl
And we’ll be a
family
Why you gotta be so
Rude
I hate to do this, you leave no choice
Can’t live without her
Love me or hate me we will be both
Standing at that altar
Or we will run away
To another galaxy, you know
You know she’s in love with me
She will go anywhere I go
Can I have your daughter for the rest of my
life?
Say yes, say yes ’cause I need to know
You say I’ll never get your blessing ’til the
day I die
Tough luck, my friend, ’cause the answer’s
still ‘No”
Why you gotta be so rude?
Don’t you know I’m human too?
Why you gotta be so rude?
I’m gonna marry her anyway
Marry that girl
Marry her anyway
Marry that girl
No matter what you say
Marry that girl
And we’ll be a family
Why you gotta be so
Rude
